2014 Topps Turkey Red #36

A couple things: Firstly, I would never spend 20 bucks for a pack that only contained 11 cards, regardless if one of the cards is an auto.  And, secondly, I got this David Wright base card for a dime at recent card show.  Not a huge Turkey Red fan, but I do love Mr. Wright and my Metsies.

1989 Score #642

The first non-Topps cards I ever received as a kid were 1989 Score.  I still remember my mom coming home from the supermarket with the packs, as a matter of fact.  Once I got over my disappointment that they weren't Topps [Ed. Note: What an ungrateful kid!], I really enjoyed these cards.  And, I still do, as I think '89 Score is a set that holds up pretty well.  I especially liked the "Rookie" subset cards.  Dwight Smith, who was left out of Topps' and Fleer's flagship sets in '89, made the cut for Score.

2004 Upper Deck #123

Oriole Park at Camden Yards has provided us with countless backdrops that turn ordinary trading cards into miniature pieces of art.  Not as often, however, are we treated to such an instance for an opposing player.  By the way, where do we rank '04 Upper Deck in the collective of cool UD designs from the current millennium?  I think it's in the argument for the best.

1995 Score #457

Score '95 featured great horizontal shots aplenty.  The strange thing about that is, rather than sprinkle them haphazardly throughout the checklist, the company opted to clump all the horizontal cards into two separate runs of about 40-50 cards.  Pretty weird sequencing option, but I guess I'm being picky.  After all, I'm a big fan of '95 Score.

1978 Topps #267

This is Doug Ault's rookie card.  It also happens to be his next-to-last Topps card.  Sometimes a guy who earns the All-Star Rookie cup on his card goes on to be a perennial All-Star.  And, sometimes not.  Regardless, this is a pretty great card [Ed. Note: Hello, Thurman!], and one that was a no-brainer dime-box grab at a card show earlier this summer.

1991 Toys R Us Rookie #18

All good things must come to an end, and last night the A's emphatically snapped Kansas City's eight-game winning streak.  Nonetheless, the Royals are still the talk of baseball and deserve a Daily Fix spot.  McRae was always one of my favorite Royals and I was pretty happy when he became a Met, even though it meant trading away Lance Johnson.  This card, from the annual Toys R Us Rookies box set, is nearly identical to McRae's card from that year's Topps set.

1999 Topps # 340

May 22, 1998 will always be a special date to me, at least in the realm of sports fandom.  That's the day the Mets acquired Mike Piazza via trade from the Florida Marlins, thus instantly transforming the team into a legitimate contender.  Getting Piazza was like getting a rock star, action hero and superstar athlete all rolled into one.  Man, I miss them days.  Anyhow, this is Mike's first Topps card as a New York Met.
