Case Closed: '89 Box Bottoms

My eBay issue was officially put right today, as the missing piece to my 1989 Topps box bottom set arrived via mail.  In you case you missed the beginning of this tale, you can check out the recap here.  The bottom line is this: Mike Schmidt is now among his hand-cut peers, where he belongs!

I suppose I'll have to give the seller a decent feedback rating, although he took his sweet time mailing the original package as well as the follow-up.  His seller profile states that he lives in Brooklyn, and I doubt it takes five business days for a parcel to get from the outer NYC boroughs to northern Delaware.

Anyhow, what's done is done and my 16-card wax panel collection is complete!

Here's a pictorial overview of the rest of the cards...

I do believe that is the only Bill Buckner Topps-issued card featuring the unfortunate fellow in Royals attire.  But, I've been known to be wrong from time to time on such matters.

Sutton didn't have a card in the regular '89 set, nor did Tekulve.  The latter, however, was included in the Traded series as a member of the Reds.

The aviator shades obviously made the trek from South Philly to Cincy.

With great happiness and satisfaction, I'll be adding these box-bottom dandies to my '89 Topps binder -- my most-beloved binder of them all.

  1. Congrats Mark! Glad it all worked out. Hey, five days from NY to DE, maybe he hand delivered it - after walking there.

  3. I just blew the dust off my box collection box the other day, and found an image variation of Pete Rose.

I want to trade the whole collection for just one box: 1975.
